Now let’s take a closer look at the differences between the Phantom 4 (standard version) and the Phantom 3 Pro model.

  • Retail Price
The Phantom 4 standard version sales on the DJI store for $1,199 (as of April 2017), while the Phantom 3 Professional “fly more combo” sales on the DJI store for $799 (as of April 2017).
  • Intelligent Flight Battery – LiPo Battery
The Phantom 4 carries a larger capacity battery with 81.3WH  5,350mAh, vs 68WH  4,480mAh for the Phantom 3 version.
  • Flight Time
As a result of the larger capacity battery, the propulsion systems, and more streamlined design of the Phantom 4, it gives a longer max flight time of 28 mins vs about 23 mins for the Phantom 3 Pro.
  • Max Flight Speed
20m/s (approx 45 mph) for the Phantom 4 vs the Phantom 3’s 16m/s (approx 36 mph)
  • High Performance Camera
The Phantom 4 has a newly designed lens that increase sharpness to shoot sharp, clean video in up to 4K at 30fps and Full HD 1080p at 120fps for slow motion vs the 60fps max capability for the Phantom 3 Pro.

  • Obstacle Sensing System
A big update for the Phantom 4 is the sense and avoid system.  Front obstacle sensors combine with advanced computer vision and processing to give the Phantom active obstacle avoidance that allows it to react to and avoid obstacles in its path.  Optical sensors have a range of 0.7-15 meters (2-49 ft).
  • Intelligent Flight Modes
The Phantom 4 adds two flight modes that utilize the new optical sensing capability.
ActiveTrack lets you track a subject automatically. The drone recognizes your subject, follows them naturally, and keeps them in the frame. No GPS bracelet, tracker or beacon required.
TapFly mode lets you simply tap on the live view on your smart device screen to send it flying in that direction. With Obstacle Sensing Systems you can watch it fly without worry.
  • Magnesium Core
A new, specially designed magnesium core increases the stiffness and rigidity of the Phantom 4 without compromising weight. Working in tandem with the battery, it lifts the center of gravity closer to the level of the props which increases agility and responsiveness.

DJI also has a newer compact fold-up design quadcopter, the Mavic. Compared to the Phantom 4, the Mavic is smaller, lighter, and easier to carry thanks to its foldable design. Its new OcuSync transmission system has a longer transmission range and 1080p resolution. Due to its larger size, the Phantom 4 has a higher maximum speed and can withstand stronger winds.
