Drone Flyover of Iceland Erupting Volcano
By ABC NEWS via Good Morning America
Two drones piloted by aerial experts brought a one-of-a-kind view into an erupting volcano live today on the Good Morning America TV show.
The drones flew over the erupting Bardarbunga Volcano in central Iceland. The volcano is located on the northern edge of the Vatnajokull Glacier and National Park. The Vatnajokull Glacier is, at over 5,000 square miles, the largest glacier in Iceland, covering 10 percent of the country.
The second highest mountain in Iceland, 2,009 metres (6,591 ft) above sea level, Bardarbunga is also part of a volcanic system that is approximately 200 kilometres (120 mi) long and 25 kilometres (16 mi) wide.
The drones’ technology allowed GMA show viewers to see the volcano from just 380 feet above.
